BAND IN THE POCKET is a course requirement!
Tulsa Read requires his students to use Band In The Pocket CDs.  Simple as that!  Beginner or professional, Band In the Pocket can be of benefit, and can make hours of practicing a joy instead of a chore!   Tulsa says "This series of educational CD’s are highly recommended for all Blues Harmonica players to help in developing their solos and riffs, and in constructing melodies."
Tulsa Read has a free gift for you!
Because he uses Band In The Pocket as part of his curriculum, he created this chart for his students and very graciously gave it to us to post on this page!

Songs that take an F harmonica can also take a Low F harmonica.  Songs that take a G harmonica can also take a High G harmonica.   These Key Charts are for the 10 hole diatonic harmonica.

hm = harmonic minor tuned harmonica that is already tuned in that position
m = natural minor tuned harmonica that is already tuned in the 2nd position, and not to be played in the first position

A note from Marvin:
I am not a harmonica player myself, so a lot of this is foreign language to me.  I have learned from talking to Tulsa that he plays the Lee Oskar diatonic harmonicas, and on these charts he would be using the Lee Oskar minor tuned harmonicas.  It might be useful to know that Lee Oskar harmonicas that are tuned in a minor key are: Gm N, which is G natural minor, and Gm H, which is G harmonic minor.  Both of these harmonicas come in various keys. Hohner harmonicas come in Gm which is harmonic minor, and GNM, which is G natural minor, and also come in various keys.  These are subtle distinctions, but would be important if you were not aware of them.
