Five Feathers Music
presents
"BAND IN THE POCKET! #5"
Jazz Flavors
For all
of you who have waited so patiently for so long,
IT'S HERE!
SOME BACKGROUND INFORMATION
This
has been our most challenging CD to date. We wanted to come up with
the perfect mix of easy going "Jazz Flavors" grooves that make for easy
going jams, paired with slightly more challenging tracks that ask a bit more
of your solos!
We enlisted the help of two
fine Jazz musicians, who also happen to be fine teachers as well. Dan
Coy is a nationally known Jazz guitarist who has taught in the Atlanta
area for many years, and is a leading session musician. Russ Rodgers
is equally well known as a premier studio musician and bass instructor.
There are several well known Atlanta bass instructors who refer to Russ as
their teacher! (By the way, Russ endorses Band In The Pocket For Bass
and uses it with his students!)
Dan and Russ have played
together in various situations for many years, and were perfect for this
project! We brought them into the studio with no specific
instructions, other than to play four nice jazzy grooves that they would
like to have for their students' jams! With no pre-planned
arrangements on ascending or descending passing chord patterns, the
spontaneity that was captured in these tracks is priceless! At times,
you may notice the guitar dictating direction, and at times it will be the
bass line. There are a few spots that the two instruments start out in
different directions, and somebody does a 180 degree turn to follow the
other's lead. We couldn't have scripted it better! The result is
perfect for spontaneous Jazz solos that really make you feel like you are
part of the group!
SPECIAL ADDITIONAL OFFER!
In addition to the booklet that is offered inside the Jazz Flavors CD, we
are also offering some more in-depth charts and discussions of the tracks.
These discussions on chord substitutions were written by Dan Coy as part of
some of his advanced jazz guitar lessons. He has graciously allowed us
to make them available to you... FREE! Just click on
the link at the bottom of this section!
The other five tracks on BAND
IN THE POCKET! #5 were taken from various projects that were done in the
Five Feathers Music studio for Five Feathers Music Publishing, our parent
company. Some were taken from Jazz Flavors instrumental CDs, some from
themes for television productions, and one was an extension of a track for a
radio commercial. One thing they all have in common... they are all
great grooves to play over... they are all "IN THE POCKET!"
Note: We had previously advertised
in some of our CD booklets that "BAND IN THE POCKET! #5" would be more
Blues, but demand for the Jazz Flavors product caused us to release it now.
Since we are in the process of giving all our booklets a "face-lift" inside
and out, we can fix that advertising error in future booklets.
This is the fifth solo product, so "#5" it is!

Chord Charts
and Outlines
We are now offering free downloads of
all the charts for all versions of Band In The Pocket. We have heard
from many teachers who tell us they have trouble using the tiny charts that
come inside the CD jewel cases, and that they have to write out charts for
their students or scan the booklets and expand them on their printer, so
that the print is large enough to read from a music stand. In a
further survey of a cross section of more customers, we learned that most
everyone would be happier with a larger, more readable format. We have
posted the charts in a printable format. NOTE: We have noticed a
couple of typographical errors in the booklet that comes inside the CD
package! The chart for "Strolling Through C minor" has an A13 that
should be an Ab13, and "Hip Pocket" and "Miami Moonlight" have 9b9 chords
that should probably be interpreted as 7b9 chords. These have all been
corrected in the larger format download versions of the charts.
Just CLICK HERE and choose the charts you
want!
We have also posted a link
for free downloads of some more in depth discussions by our distinguished
guest musicians on the chord extensions and substitution chords used on some
of the tracks. Just follow the links below!
