Digital and Analog Recording

Born of necessity, this recording facility is the result of two prolific songwriters needing a handy place to demo new material.  From time to time Marvin and Raven also collaborate with other songwriters and producers.

Songs From The Road To Enlightenment
by The Enlightenment Road Band

CD cover for Songs From The Road To Enlightenment

One of the fine projects done entirely "in-house" at Five Feathers Music is Songs From The Road To EnlightenmentJohn Scriven came to Five Feathers with some great songs he had written to go with a book he was working on called "Excuse Me, Is This The Road To Enlightenment?"  Marvin and Raven worked with John to co-write and produce more songs to fit the themes of the book. This is "grown-up" Rock and Roll music that has a touch of Blues and Jazz,  with lyrics intended to encourage people and lift their spirits.  The Enlightenment Road Band features an all-star roster of Georgia studio talent.  Renown Blues/Jazz artist Francine Reed, Capricorn recording artist Randall Bramlett (also known for his fine saxophone work with Traffic and Steve Winwood, as well as his memorable performances with Sea Level),  veteran session singer Wally Carter (you know his voice from many National commercials), and Grammy nominated songwriter/singer Susan Gallion.

The book (now an "anthology" of individual downloadable smaller books) and CD are both available at John's Website at www.selfhelpstuff.com .  Listen to these Windows Media Audio samples:

"What Is That Light"

"Under The Skin"

NOTE: John now has a site dedicated to the promotion of this CD at http://www.theroadtoenlightenment.com

Another function of Five Feathers Music is doing pre-production work for other studios.  Francine Reed has recorded five highly acclaimed solo CDs over the past few years, and a Christmas super single in 2000.  Marvin and Raven have written songs for each CD, and pre-production was done at Five Feathers. Unfortunately, record companies seem to come and go these days, and several of Francine's CDs are out of circulation due to the demise of different labels.  Compilation CDs are currently distributed by various companies, and Internet searches usually turn up some of her work for collectors. Due to Francine's amazing popularity and her notoriety from tours and talk show appearances as a featured member of Lyle Lovett's Large Band, and  duets with Delbert McClinton and Willie Nelson on their CDs, their duets with her on her CDs, and  as well as talk show circuit exposure with Lyle and Willie and others, it's just a matter of time before Francine is reconnected with a major label.   Several other "surprise artists" are also waiting in the wings for future CDs!

Gaining strength as an artist capable of selling tickets, Miss Reed is now appearing more often as a headliner all across America and Europe.

Francine Reed's producer, Bryan Cole, has a long history of collaborations with Marvin and Five Feathers Music, both in bands and in recording.  Their latest collaboration was co-producing a Christmas CD for Country artist Mark Scott.

 Here are some samples...

This Christmas Mark co-wrote this with Bryan and Marvin.  Marvin is playing all the instruments, Mark sings lead, Jeff Hilyer does all the backing vocals.

Saints And Angels  This is a cover of a song Sara Evans did on her CD.  It was to be all acoustic until Marvin's friend Don Denson emailed him an mp3 of an electric guitar solo for the song.  Marvin liked it so much that he overdubbed electric guitar from the beginning so he could use Don's solo in the middle of the song.  Marvin plays all the instruments except Don's solo, and Jeff Hilyer sang all the backing vocals.

There are also lots of songs on the songwriting page at http://www.fivefeathers.com/songwritingpage.htm .
